Born and raised in California, Mr. Moretton has a B.A. in Drama from San Jose State University and an M.F.A.
in dance from New York University.
Beginning with a background in professional ballroom dancing, his dance career spans nearly three decades, encompassing
performing experiences in musical theatre and with the companies of Dennis Wayne's DANCERS, Boston Repertory Ballet,
Washington Opera Ballet, Joyce Trisler's Danscompany and Alvin Ailey Repertory Ensemble (charter member) MTV's 1999
Music Video Awards, From the Horse's Mouth -- Chapter 10 (2001), and on NHK-TV (Japan) with Papaya Suzuki (2001).
Currently on the faculty of STEPS Studio, Ballet Arts (where he is artistic director of showcases), and Montclair
State University, Mr. Moretton has been on the faculties of Jacob's Pillow, Alvin Ailey American Dance Center,
Joffrey Ballet School, Dance Space, Inc., and Mary Anthony Dance Studio. He served on the faculty of David Howard's
Teachers Workshop (NYC, 2001) and has also served as an adjunct faculty member at Collaborative Arts Project 21
(Musical Theater Department of the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University), Adelphi University, San Jose
State University, S.U.N.Y. at Purchase; and guest faculty at Ohio State University, University of Iowa, Brigham Young
University, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and Hobart & William Smith College, and taught at the American Academy
of Ballet Festival (Royal Academy of Dance School) 2000-02 summer intensive programs at Vassar College. International
teaching includes Balett Akademien (Stockholm), The Gulbenkian Ballet (Lisbon), Tani Momoko Ballet School (Tokyo), and
at the Horeftika Vimata organization in Nicosia, Cyprus in the summer of 2002.
Mr. Moretton's choreographic commissions include works for Dennis Wayne's DANCERS, Soundance Repertory Company, Ballet
Builders '99, Dalton-Hartel Dance, Avila/Weeks, Okamoto Ballet (Japan), Manhattan Opera, East/West Repertory Ensemble,
Three's Co. & Dancers (San Diego), Kaimuki Dance Theatre (Hawaii), Dutchess Ballet, and Utica Dance Works. In addition
to workshops with Thunderclap Productions and the New Arts Festival, he has also choreographed musical theater productions
for Cap 21 (Moll Flanders) and the Castillo Theater, where he is resident choreographer (Hot Snow; Coming of Age
in Korea; Carmen's Place; Crown Heights; Sally & Tom; The Last Temptation of William Jefferson;
Still On The Corner; Mantle, Maris and Mom; and Marat/Sade which was re-staged in the 2000 Midtown International
Theater Festival). He has choreographed the All-Stars Talent Network Showcase Galas at Lincoln Center in from 1998 through 2002, and
is choreographing for New York-based Boot. Mr. Moretton is a partnership member of the Five Points Production theatrical producing consortium.
Mr. Moretton has served as Ballet Master and Rehearsal Director for Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane & Company, Dennis Wayne's DANCERS, Joyce
Trisler's Danscompany, Avila/Weeks, Ann Carlson, Corning Dances & Company, Rachel Lampert & Dancers, and Dance Express. He was a
resident choreographer for Soundance Repertory Company from 1995-2000, and was Artist-in-Residence at the Brooklyn Music School in 2001.
