Jana Hicks
Jana Hicks, a native of Texas, holds a BFA in dance from Southern Methodist University.
In Texas she danced with several prominent modern and jazz companies including Dancers Unlimited
Repertory Co., Citijazz, Meadows Repertory Dance, the Dallas Opera and Civic Opera among others.
She has performed the works of choreographers Bill T. Jones, Judith Jamison, Pucci/Parker, Mathew Diamond,
Eddie Burgess, Ross Parks, Bertram Ross, Toni Beck, Moses Pendleton and Momix, among others. Jana also appeared
in the Broadway National tour of Heartstrings and has danced and choreographed for Industrial Stage, Film
and Television.
With an offer to work with the Jose Limon Company, Jana moved to New York in 1990 and has since
performed with a wide variety of companies and choreographers. Companies include Max Stones
E-Motion, David Storey Danceworks, Extended Dance Co., Sans Nemo Collective, Soundance Repertory,
Verlezza Dance, Laurie DeVito & Dancers, Elyse Wright Dancers, American Dance Ensemble, Ariel
Herreras Fishmongers, Linda Nutter & Co., Unconfined Movement, choreographers Ray Tadio,
Michele Miller, Lynn Simonson, and Michael Foley among others. Jana has been a member of The Kevin
Wynn Collection since 1995, and currently dances with the Collection and Guido Tuveris Sans Nemo Collective.
Janas choreography has been commissioned by Moga Dance (Japan & NY '93), Montreal Dance (Canada '97),
NYSDI (NY '98), SPW (NY '02), Off Center Dance Theater (NY '02) and The Next Stage Project (NY '02) and
showcased by the Student Visa Showcase (NY '00), and City Center Ballet Arts the 6th Floor (NY '02).
As co-director of the New York Dance Exchange, in collaboration with Max Stone, Jana has taught workshops
in Brazil, Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam, Rome, Goteborg, Stockholm, Montreal, and throughout the US. Their
choreography has been commissioned by Portella Dance (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil '94), Articulations (Tucson,
Arizona '99), NYSDI ('96), SPW ('00 & '01), Arts Magnet Repertory (Dallas, TX), The Houston Met (Houston, TX)
and showcased by Unconfined Movement (NY), the Evolving Arts Theater, Broadway Dance Center, and Steps on Broadway.
Choreographic and performance ideals have led her to work with distinguished companies including the renowned
Cirque Du Soleil.
