Laya began her training in her hometown of Detroit Michigan in modern, jazz, ballet and
tap but found her most inspiration in the dance style of hip hop. Spending many of her summers
training at the Edge Performing Arts Center and Millennium Dance Complex in Los Angeles,
Laya has had the honor of training with some of the top choreographers and teachers around
today. She continued her studies in modern, jazz and ballet at Indiana University where she
graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance Performance. While at Indiana, Laya danced,
choreographed and eventually became co-director for the In-Motion Dance Company. She also
co-choreographed and directed the award winning dance concert Revival. Throughout the past
few years Laya has had the opportunity to teach workshops and master classes around the US
and abroad including Canada, Israel and Australia. Currently Laya is on the faculty at the
School at Steps and is a substitute teacher for the open hip hop classes at Steps and Dance
New Amsterdam.
